Scout’s Latest Vision of Its Upcoming 4×4 Gives Utility an Unexpected Form

The brand has teased a retooled version of its Traveler SUV that comes with unique added storage provisions and cool California vibes.

While Scout Motors has stated that production of its forthcoming electrified 4x4s is slated to start in 2027, that hasn’t stopped the revived brand from getting fans excited in the meantime.

Quite the opposite, in fact. Scout has already come together with Vero for a collaborative chronograph, and it continues to tease interested buyers with eye-catching new variations of its vehicles through projects like the Silo Green retooled Terra truck.

Scout’s Traveler Pacific Mist concept heralds the addition of an eye-catching blue paint along with a sweet rear carrier storage solution.

The brand’s latest effort takes the form of another concept car, only this time it’s the SUV. In addition to a nifty new storage solution, it brings some subtle California-inspired style.

A backpack for your off-road rig

Scout is calling it the Pacific Mist Scout Traveler concept, and as befits the name, it’s been designed with coastal excursions in mind.

Accordingly, along with a set of 22-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch BFGoodrich off-road rubber, this means that the Traveler boasts some unique storage solutions for hauling all of your beach essentials. For instance, up top, Scout’s re-theme sports a new multifunctional roof rack.

Between a bevy of add-on mounts, an integrated track system and some built-in tie-down points, it’s capable of carrying everything from surfboards and camping equipment to fishing rods and skis. Moreover, Scout says that the modular design means that the rack will be able to accommodate further accessories down the road.

However, the real pièce de résistance is found at the rear of the vehicle. Where you’d typically find a mounted spare tire, Scout has instead fitted an all-new “backpack” accessory that turns the carrier into a nifty storage solution.

It’s an item that first appeared on the original concepts, and Scout has since developed it into a fully modular system. Thanks to a pair of separated compartments, it guarantees both wet and dry gear storage, enabling you to haul whatever you need — be it wetsuits or a picnicking setup — without worry.

Coastal-inspired heritage styling

Beyond the added utility, Scout’s re-themed Pacific Mist Traveler concept features a host of unique visual touches that reference its Californian inspirations. After all, the vehicle takes its name from “the mist that rises when waves crash into the Pacific Coast cliffs.”

As such, the outside of the Traveler comes shod in a special Pacific Mist paint that shifts from silver to blue depending on the light. Together with the gloss black accents on the wheels, the door handles and the roof, it makes for a look that’s equal parts classic and modern.

But that’s not all. To complement the fresh exterior, Scout has treated the interior to further “life-styling” through a reimagined take on some of the brand’s heritage themes, including both traditional materials and palettes.

Though it’s hard to miss the bright, brick red leather, that’s not the only piece of Americana you’ll find — Scout has also given the upholstery some unique denim-inspired accents.

Scout’s Director of Color, Materials, and Finish Design, Aileen Barraza, thinks of it as, “cowboy boots and jeans, dress slacks and dress shoes — a modern interpretation of classic American materials.”

More still to come

The Pacific Mist Traveler is still a concept, so Scout is not currently offering it as an option for sale. However, along with the bold blue paint job, other elements like the rear backpack and the roof rails will eventually be available to order once production commences.

Scout didn’t specify the powertrain in its Pacific Mist announcement, though it does appear to feature the Harvester range extender option. That would track given the proportion of pre-orders for the EREV, at least.
