One of Timex’s best releases of 2025 was its Waterbury Heritage Chronograph, a classic 39mm timepiece clearly inspired by some of the most famous pieces from the 1970s golden age of auto-racing chronographs, like the Rolex Daytona and Heuer Autavia.

The watch combined vintage-inspired design with modern functionality at an accessible price, earning praise from enthusiasts seeking affordable alternatives to the era’s legendary racing chronographs.

Now, after a surprisingly long wait, a leather racing strap version is finally slated for its debut on Timex’s own website, with shipping estimated at March 23rd.

But if you look elsewhere, not only is the watch already available, but it’s also on sale for $50 less from an unexpected source.

Sportier than ever

Timex Waterbury chronograph watch with silver dial, black subdials, tachymeter bezel, and black perforated leather strap.
The chronograph, clearly modeled after pieces from the 1970s ‘golden age’ of auto-racing chronographs, like the Rolex Daytona and Heuer Autavia, was one of Timex’s best releases of 2025, so it felt inevitable that a version with a leather strap would follow.

The Waterbury Heritage Chronograph features a vintage-inspired design with modern touches that recall the heyday of motorsport timepieces.

The 39mm stainless steel case houses a chronograph movement with sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, while a black tachymeter bezel adds period-correct racing functionality.

The black dial with contrasting white subdials and gold-toned hands creates strong visual depth that’s more than reminiscent of so-called classic “Panda Dialed” chronographs of the past.

This new leather racing strap version is arguably more sport-oriented than ever for those looking for a comfortable, classic timepiece to wear through any land adventure.

Last summer, Timex also introduced three fabric-strapped versions alongside a new racing green chronograph.

The combination of the racing strap and vintage chronograph design creates a watch that feels equally at home at a cars-and-coffee meet-up or on a weekend hike.

Beyond the details of the new watch, what’s most surprising here is that Timex’s own site says the watch will be available to ship starting March 23, yet Macy’s appears to be offering fans a head start on getting their hands on this leather-strapped variant.

Not only is the watch available now from Macy’s, but it’s also listed at $50 off the MSRP of $299 quoted on Timex’s site.

For enthusiasts looking to get their hands on the leather-strapped edition sooner rather than later, Macy’s immediate shipping and the discount make this an opportunity worth considering.
