Announced at World Whiskies Awards in New York last night, Ironroot Republic’s Harbinger bourbon whiskey earned the title “World’s Best Bourbon.”
The Northeast Texas distillery’s whiskey is made using heirloom corn varieties from local farms and is available in limited markets outside its home state for around $50. For those unfamiliar with World Whiskies Awards, this is an underdog story. Previous winners of its “World’s Best Bourbon” title include heavy hitters and household names like Four Roses’ 130th Anniversary Limited Edition expression, Sazerac-owned John J. Bowman Single Barrel and 1792’s barrel strength offering. It isn’t the first award the bottle has earned, but it is the biggest.
Other winners announced at the event include Four Roses’ Brent Elliott for Master Distiller of the Year, E.H. Taylor’s Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey for Best American Rye Whiskey and Buffalo Trace Distillery for Distillery of the Year.
