This Stunning, Approachable New Moto Puts Honda and Kawasaki on Notice

Those who want to fly without necessarily hitting the track are sure to drool over this midsize forbidden fruit.

The conventional wisdom about computers is to buy a little more than you need at the moment.

The idea is that tech and/or your own needs will likely advance so fast, in a year you are either going to be glad you did or regretting you didn’t.

The same idea carries over pretty nicely to entry-level motos, the only caveat being that if you buy too much computer, it isn’t likely to kill you.

That’s why I’m itching for QJMotor’s SRK 600 RS to hit our shores; it could satisfy the rising rider’s need for speed while being approachable and affordable enough to not break your back or your bank account.

American Ninja worrier?

Let’s start with the engine, which cleanly splits the difference between what some gateway sport bike stalwarts have to offer. 

The nitty gritty: Kawasaki’s Ninja 500 packs a 451cc engine while the Ninja 650 comes in at 649cc. Similarly, Honda’s CBR500R has 471cc and its CBR650R has 649cc.

Wenling, Zhejiang Province, China-based QJMotor doesn’t play within the boundaries laid out by those legends of Japan’s Big Four.

So it is that the SRK 600 RS rolls up to the line right between them with a liquid-cooled 554cc two-cylinder engine making 56 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and max torque of 40 ft-lbs at 5,500 rpm.

Those numbers won’t necessarily blow a seasoned motorcyclist away, but they will gradually progress from scary to exhilarating for a novice rider steadily improving their skills.

Additional safety nets come in the form of responsive Brembo disc brakes with ABS and traction control, plus an inverted Marzocchi fork and reliable rear monoshock.

Names like Marzocchi and Brembo lend major credibility to lesser-known brands (stateside anyway) such as QJMotor.

The dimensions are approachable too, highlighted by a curb weight of 428 pounds (just seven pounds more than the CBR500R) and a seat height of 30.7 inches.

Believe it or not, that figure is actually slightly lower than both Kawi and Honda’s entry-level offerings.

The bike offers a bit of tech, too, in the form of a full-color TFT display providing relevant data, including tire pressure, Bluetooth connectivity and USB fast charging.

Throw in great looks (including a glorious exhaust system) and a presumably competitive price and this bike could indeed be an American Ninja worrier, if and when it rolls this way.

Availability and pricing

The QJMotor SRK 600 RS is available overseas for €6,399, or roughly $7,500 USD. With the brand bringing more bikes to our shores, let’s cross our fingers that this one makes it one day.
