The current world record for a marathon is 2:02:57 and it’s held by Dennis Kimetto from Kenya. Adidas is looking to help former world record holder and fellow Kenyan Wilson Kipsang beat that time by more than three minutes through its latest shoe release, the Adizero Sub2. The shoe features a version of the brand’s Boost foam, which is used on a number of models, called Boost Light. The material was developed after years of testing with different materials, on different surfaces, in different temperatures. It’s the lightest foam Adidas has ever developed. In addition to the new foam, the shoe also features technological advancements in the outsole and upper, making use of the lightest materials available. The shoe will debut on Kipsang’s feet at this Sunday’s Tokyo Marathon. “Boost was a game-changer for me,” Kipsang said. “After working with Adidas on Boost Light, I’m absolutely ready to get out on the course in Tokyo and show the world what we can do.”
