Mystery Ranch’s highly-regarded status among hikers, climbers, wildfire fighters and members of the armed forces is well-earned; the bags it makes are tough and feature-rich. So, if the Bozeman-based bag maker were to do a collaboration backpack, it would have to be with a brand that could elevate the product without taking away from its intrinsic nature. As it turns out, Los Angeles-based AETHER was just the company for the job.
The AETHER x Mystery Ranch Backpack is a unique take on Mystery Ranch’s Flip backpack. The pack’s core features are all still present: a simple, pocket-equipped flip top, internal laptop and tablet sleeves, a water bottle pocket, side compression straps. But the collaboration is outfitted with a new, water-resistant nylon body and bottom and two handsome colorways that are distinctly urban. The backpack is readily-distinguishable Mystery Ranch, but it’s also something more, something that can be appreciated by a new, city-oriented audience.
