A year in, the Adizero Evo SL is more than a shoe. It’s a full-on franchise, with not one but four new variants that expand upon the original.

It’s also no longer the new kid on the block.

As of this month, Adidas has a sleek new super trainer in its ranks; what’s more, it revisits the brand’s beloved Boost platform, bringing the iconic cushioning system into the modern era with the inclusion of PEBA foam.

But don’t go thinking that the first-gen Adizero Evo SL is anywhere near the end of the road. Just like that, Adidas proves yet again that the original formula still sets the pace.

The Adizero Evo SL “Mars” is the third collaboration between Pharrell Williams’s small brand Humanrace and one of the world’s premier sportswear companies.

However, unlike the pair’s freshman and sophomore releases, the new model swaps out the Adizero Evo SL’s signature understated look for a bold new colorway inspired by our celestial neighbor.

That means both the upper and Lightstrike Pro midsole take on a light-brown hue, complemented by dark stripes and bright red accents on the heel and Continental outsole.

For what it’s worth, the extraterrestrial concept seems tailor-made for Adidas’s all-terrain version of the Adizero Evo SL released in the winter, if not the variant with a futuristic exoskeleton.

Then again, if ain’t broke …

The Adizero Evo SL “Mars” is yet another showcase of the original model’s might, effortlessly balancing performance and style into one affordable package.

Availability and pricing

Now live on Adidas’s Confirmed app, the Adizero Evo SL “Mars” costs $160 and goes on sale March 21.

That makes it slightly more expensive than the mainline model but still a compelling value proposition considering its super-shoe-quality midsole.
