Nowadays, much is expected of the humble camp blanket.

Blankets are expected to be abrasion-resistant, waterproof, packable … the list goes on, but at the end of the day, a blanket’s primary job is to be warm and cozy.

While options like Yeti’s Lowlands have their place on dirty, rugged adventures, there are benefits to a little softness.

Carhartt’s Bethany Yellowtail Firm Duck Sherpa-Lined Blanket is certainly durable, but it’s also far cozier than the Lowlands, giving it an edge over the popular do-it-all camp blanket.

Cozy vibes only

Yeti’s Lowlands is great for handling messy, damp, demanding adventures … but it’s not the first blanket I’d pick to curl up in next to the campfire after a long day exploring.

However, I’d definitely reach for Carhartt’s sherpa-lined camp blanket.

While Yeti’s do-it-all blanket is made with durable polyester, Carhartt’s is constructed with 12-ounce, firm hand 100 percent ringspun cotton duck canvas.

That means while it’s got a nicer hand feel on its more durable side, the interior of the sherpa-lined blanket is even better.

The sherpa lining on the interior of the camp throw is nice and thick, and aside from its ability to trap heat, it has deeper meaning.

The pattern was developed in collaboration with Native American fashion designer Bethany Yellowtail and features a design inspired by her Indigenous roots.

“It’s the motifs of the land that I come from. The mountains, the river, the sun.”

Yellowtail’s work draws on her history, heritage and growing up on her family’s cattle ranch in Montana.

The Bethany Yellowtail Firm Duck Sherpa-Lined Blanket features a triple-stitched base, lending it protection against rips and tears.

Hand and shoulder carry straps make it easy to move around camp and pack up when you’re ready to roll.

At 59.5 x 45.5 inches wide, Carhartt’s camp blanket is noticeably smaller than Yeti’s 78 x 55 inch Lowlands blanket.

But since Carhartt’s version is better suited for wrapping around yourself, rather than spreading out as an all-terrain ground covering, the size difference isn’t as apparent as might be expected.

Availability and pricing
