Built for dirt, pavement and every surface in-between, the new ACG Pegasus Trail might just be the most versatile workhorse in Nike’s stable.

The all-new ACG Pegasus Trail shows Nike is serious when it says All Conditions Gear.

The brand’s latest attempt to translate its best-selling road-shoe formula to the trails, and the first since the relaunch of ACG, aims to be an all-terrain solution for dirt, pavement and every surface in-between.

“It’s responsive and comfortable,” says Golden Trail World Series Final champion Lauren Gregory. “I use it for everything.”

Go to ground

Unveiled alongside the highly anticipated Pegasus 42, the ACG Pegasus Trail sits alongside Nike’s new pinnacle trail racer, the ACG Ultrafly.

Like that shoe, versatility, stability and comfort on longer efforts remain paramount to the design.

The ACG Pegasus Trail features a revised rubber outsole with hex lugs tailored for multisurface use.

According to Andrew Bumbalough, a former professional runner who now helps with shoe creation at Nike, the rubber compound adds 30 percent more traction, while also increasing abrasion resistance by double figures.

“Often these things are at odds,” he says. “You don’t usually get durability and performance in the same compound, but in this case, you get both. It’s really sticky, but it also lasts for quite a long time as well.”

The ACG Pegasus Trail also showcases a durable mesh upper optimized around durability and drainability. But perhaps more important than the material is the shape.

Built around a different last than the one used on the road-only Pegasus, the shoe has a wider and taller toe box for both swelling and splay.

“We know trail runners really like the ability to splay their feet,” Bumbalough says, “to really spread those toes out to get even more confidence on the trail.”

Supporting that priority on ground-feel is a slightly reduced offset, which drops to 8mm from 10mm on the Pegasus 42.

Availability and pricing

Available in April, the ACG Pegasus Trail comes in a single “Jade Horizon” colorway at launch. Stay tuned for concrete details regarding pricing, which have yet to be announced.
