This Incredibly Thin Titanium EDC Knife Just Got a Big Blade Upgrade

The Porcupine TiSlim was already among Vosteed’s best novel releases, but this edition gives it a high-performance boost.

Only a few short weeks ago, Vosteed launched its Porcupine TiSlim. Yet, I’d already place it among the brand’s best offerings of all time, right alongside its sister EDC knife, the Raccoon TiSlim.

However, if you weren’t quite sold on it yet, maybe the latest iteration, the Vosteed Porcupine TiSlim S90V, might win you over.

This new take is available in two colorways and finishes, but they’re identical in both material and function.

Lookin’ sharp

Prior to this release, the Porcupine TiSlim came in five configurations. Four of them had the same handle milling, which had a repeating diagonal line pattern etched into the scales. The fifth, which was a special edition, had the brand’s Acid Wash pattern on the scales.

These two new offerings are different from both the previous versions. While the material is still titanium, the milling features a series of circles inset into the handle in varying sizes.

It almost looks like a moon crater pattern or maybe crop circles. Either way, the design certainly helps these new editions stand out from the rest of the pack.

These two new handles differ only in color: one is blue, while the other is antique-style brass. Otherwise, they are identical, down to the shape of their milled pocket clip, placement of their button lock, lanyard hole and so on.

But that’s just the most obvious upgrade …

A subtle, impactful upgrade

While the handles are certainly eye-catching, they’re not precisely what I would call an “upgrade” in the strictest sense. This is because, while they look different and have a novel pattern etched into them, they’re materially and functionally identical to the standard Porcupine TiSlim.

The same cannot be said for the other side of the knife: its blade.

The standard version of this folder comes with 154CM steel, which is an American-made, upgraded, modified version of 440C (a great steel in its own right. Often, it is compared to N690, although 154CM performs slightly better.

Like its siblings, this knife (center) is incredibly slender.

This new take on the Porcupine TiSlim sees that steel swapped for S90V, a more hyped-up performance steel. While 154CM is technically tougher and easier to sharpen, S90V is vastly superior in edge retention, which could be considered a much more important metric in general EDC use.

Whatever the case, this expands the options available for an already outstanding knife, casting an even wider net in the EDC world and offering greater variety.
