Vosteed’s Button Lock Super Steel EDC Knife Upgrades a Legendary Material

The best part of this take on the fan-favorite Psyop is that each knife, even within the same colorway, has a unique pattern.

Vosteed’s Psyop, a collaboration with TuffKnives, is among the brand’s most popular offerings. And that makes it the perfect platform for continued experimentation, as it gives fans something new and exciting to look forward to.

The latest in this ongoing series is the Vosteed Psyop Current Micarta, which sees that very EDC knife get a trio of new handle treatments that reimagine a tried-and-true material.

Three’s company

Technically speaking, this new release comprises three different options. But it’s not quite that simple. Yes, there are three versions to choose from, but there’s an extra layer of depth.

This is because the material used for these Psyops is Current Micarta (from a company called Current Composites, out of East Haven, Connecticut). It’s a linen-and-resin-based composite just like traditional Micarta, but it gets some noteworthy upgrades and tweaks.

While the handle patterns are completely unique, all three versions come with an Elmax super steel blade.

For starters, it’s more refined in its texture. It also gets an upgrade to its overall grip, which is great because Micarta was already among the best grippy materials. And yet it still has that same unmistakable vibe, both in touch and appearance.

But the appearance is the other bit. Because this micarta is made with variable layers and colors, no two knives feature the same pattern. Every single one is unique. As I said, there are three options to choose from, but the possibilities are actually sort of infinite.

(As a side note, the Brown-Black Stonewash option has another hidden feature: it glows in the dark.)

The knives also get a thumb stud and front flipper deployment, as well as a convenient button lock.

One of a kind

As exciting as these new handle treatments are, they’re hardly the only things to get excited about with these knives.

Take the blade, for example. All three knives get a drop-point blade crafted from Elmax super steel, renowned for its superior edge retention, exceptional toughness, high corrosion resistance and relatively simple care. Put plainly, this steel performs magnificently.

The Psyop also has dual deployment options: a front flipper and a thumb hole, both ambidextrous. It also gets a convenient yet strong and reliable button lock, a lanyard hole and a reversible pocket clip.

In simple terms, this knife is a tour de force of EDC utility, upscale styling and durable longevity. This is the kind of knife that will, with the right care (and really not much), last for a lifetime of use.
