As steady as the basic elements are, the pocket knife world continues to evolve with every passing day.

One of the challenges for brands is how to progress while retaining the classic features so many of us love about well-crafted folding blades.

Thanks to its unique shape and sheen, the Anglex is sure to draw some double takes.

Amidst that struggle, We Knife stands out as a brand that consistently pushes the envelope and rewrites the rules of the form.

The latest example is the Anglex, which will likely have you rethinking the definition of a gentleman’s knife — in a good way.

City of angles

Right off the bat, the most striking thing about the Anglex has got to be its shape.

The streamlined, trapezoid and, yes, angular silhouette it cuts when deployed (to its full length of 8.68 inches) is quite eye-catching.

Lest you think it is all sizzle and no steak, rest assured that this knife absolutely has the proverbial chops to make the cut — puns very much intended.

The business end is a 3.89-inch stonewashed satin-finished reverse tanto blade made of Bohler M390, a super steel boasting high levels of corrosion resistance, hardness and edge retention.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese combat weapons such as the Bunka Bocho and Kiritsuke, the reverse tanto shape of the blade only adds to the aesthetic appeal.

In other words, although the aesthetic has gentleman’s knife vibes, it can absolutely spring into action to do a lot more than open very important letters.

Deployment is swift and smooth via a discreet rear flipper tab and caged ceramic ball bearing, while a nested liner lock holds everything firmly in place.

Not to be outdone by that shimmering high-end steel, the handle itself offers its own charms.

Machined from 6AL4V titanium, it features a grippy ridge on the spine, decorative indentations and a tip-up right carry clip for easy toting.

The Anglex’s overall effect of making you look ahead of your time is just a bonus, really.
