Dutch brand G-Star Raw has jumped on the sustainable denim bandwagon and is now offering two unique styles for men. A tapered pair of jeans ($190) and a deconstructed denim jacket ($250) are cut from 100% organic cotton denim that is dyed without the use of sodium hydrosulphite (a chemical used in conventional dying processes). The jeans feature responsibly sourced labels (FSC-certified paper and recycled polyester), buttons that are finished without toxic chemicals and eco-friendly washes that don’t rely on the use of stones or potassium permanganate. G-Star works with the Saitex denim factory to conserve water and ensure safe and fair working conditions. Sustainable manufacturing is necessary for the enduring success of the denim industry, and this new collection is an important step in the right direction.
