Carhartt makes a damn fine jacket. But its reputation goes well beyond outerwear.
Founded in the late 1800s, the company is famous for remaining under family ownership, despite decades of change that transformed the brand into a cultural powerhouse.
That’s not about to change, even with a new spinoff brand in the wings.

Led by Gretchen Valade, the great-great granddaughter of Hamilton Carhartt, Wylie Welling is a recently launched offshoot dedicated to celebrating Carhartt’s rich heritage.
Instead of reissuing archival pieces wholesale, however, Valade and her team source and upcycle vintage garments, before selling them as one-of-kind grails from decades past.
“Wylie Welling celebrates the character and unique wear of each individual piece,” the brand says on its website.
