Some things never go out of style. That’s the guiding principle behind Buzz Rickson’s creations, anyway.

The 32-year-old Japanese brand is famous for its faithful, meticulously assembled reproductions of vintage American military clothing — and no style is more iconic, or more timeless, than the MA-1 flight jacket.

This week, Porter is releasing a limited-edition take on the classic silhouette in collaboration with Buzz Rickson’s, blending archival details with modern materials.

Historical fashion

The partnership between Porter and Buzz Rickson’s is the latest addition to Yoshida & Co.’s 90th anniversary collection.

It celebrates the brand’s longevity by bringing its own gravitas to the table. (Porter is the prestigious bag maker’s most famous label.)

The highly sought-after MA-1 flight jacket, Buzz Rickson’s faithful reproduction of the famous American military outerwear first developed in the 1950s, is debuting later this week as a new special-edition release, which features Porter’s new plant-based nylon.

A new era of style

First introduced in Porter’s Tanker Series and developed in collaboration with Toray Industries, the new shell material is the world’s first mass-produced, 100 percent plant-based nylon.

Along with its updated face fabric, the NA-1 arrives in a limited-edition “Coyote” colorway, previously seen across Porter’s Fall ’25 lineup.

The jacket also includes a removable wallet, which sits on the left sleeve where the original, and now somewhat defunct, cigarette pocket is normally located.

Inside, there’s updated 3M Thinsulate insulation, which adds modern performance to the archival style, as well as a map graphic on the nylon taffeta lining, a nod to the “traveling map” detail once ubiquitous on flight jackets.

There’s also an integrated, detachable strap that snaps on and off the collar, allowing the bomber to be carried like a backpack when temperatures rise.

Modernized details include the unique front closure, which combines a zipper and snap buttons, allowing the fit of the jacket to be customized: the snap buttons create a slimmer fit.

The sleeves feature zippers based on Yoshida & Co.’s “gusset expansion” function, which allows the armholes to be expanded to accommodate layers — or for a more relaxed fit.
