The Beoplay E8s ($299) are B&O Play’s first pair of truly wireless earbuds. They are cut from the same cloth as Apple’s AirPods, Bragi’s The Dash, and Samsung’s IconX. As its lofty price suggests, the E8s are designed specifically for audiophiles. According to Engadget, each bud packs a 5.7mm electro-dynamic speaker (16 Ohm impedance and a 20 – 20,000 Hz frequency range). And with its companion app, you can adjust the EQ of your music.
The E8s have a built-in mic for taking calls or asking Siri or Google Now to do things. Like the Icon X, these earbuds also support touch gestures to change songs and activate voice commands. The four-hour battery life of each E8 isn’t great, but the charging case can charge each bud twice over. (For comparison, each AirPod has a five-hour life and the charging case can charge each AirPod over three times.) It’ll be interesting to see if the E8s sound that much better than its competitors, and if they’re still easy to use.
Expect the Beoplay E8s to be available in October. They’ll be available in two colors, black and “charcoal sand” (a.k.a. gray).
