If three’s a trend, then two-dimensional watches are officially in.

Designed in tandem with visual artist Joshua Vides, the DW5600JV-7 and DW6900JV-1 follow in the footsteps of the D1 Milano Sketch and G-Shock’s own Origami Series.

The DW5600JV-7 and DW6900JV-1 adopt Vides’s signature art style, giving them a two-dimensional look.

That means they adopt the appearance of a two-dimensional sketch, defying the rules of physics for a striking illusion that makes each watch pop off the wearer’s wrist.

G-Shock’s recently released Origami Series (pictured) went in a similar direction, resulting in an eye-catching appearance.

For this collaboration, Vides chose two G-Shock classics as the backdrop for his “Reality to Idea” concept.

The DW5600JV-7, a square model that takes after the original G-Shock watch from the 1980s, arrives in white, with bold black strokes across the band and bezel that resemble a permanent marker.

An inverse colorway defines the DW6900JV-1, which makes for a more subtle variation on G-Shock’s iconic 1995 design often called the “Three Eyes” for triple-graph dial.

Despite their light-hearted appearance, however, both models uphold the brand’s reputation for tough timekeeping.

They feature G-Shock’s signature shock-resistant construction and 200 meters of water resistance, while a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer and multi-function alarm underscore their overall utility for everyday wear.

Availability and pricing

In a rare move for one-off G-Shock models, the DW5600JV-7 and DW6900JV-1 will launch in the US rather than Japan, debuting at a pop-up event in Los Angeles on March 13 and 14.

Retailing for $180, each model will roll out to select retails nationwide starting March 16.
