Although they’re far from practical when it comes to reading the time, entirely blacked-out watches — those with not only black cases and dials but also black hands, indices and markings — still have strong appeal thanks to their ultracool, stealthy looks.

Models like Omega’s Seamaster Black Black and Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, Norqain’s Wild One All Black and Bell & Ross’s BR-03 Phantom are currently the stealthiest watches on the market, but Hublot — which pioneered all-black watches back in 2006 — has found a way to make an entirely blacked-out watch even stealthier.

The secret? Just add camo.

Does it get any stealthier than black-on-black camo?

You can’t see me

Hublot’s new watch is a version of its Classic Fusion, the brand’s surprisingly minimalist entry-level sports watch. It’s also a collab between the Swiss brand and Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto, their fourth project together.

Previous efforts from the two brands included the murdered-out Big Bang GMT All Black and the green-and-black camouflaged Hublot Big Bang Camo, both released in 2020. But the new watch, the Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo, is their first to incorporate a black camo pattern.

The watch’s 42mm case is crafted from black ceramic and mated to an all-black integrated hybrid strap with a rubber interior and woven fabric exterior.

The hands and applied indices are black as well and are free of lume. Even the date window at 3:00 features a black disc with lighter black numerals. The dial text, which consists of Hublot’s logo at 12:00, Yamamoto’s signature above 6:00 and “Swiss Made” below it, is in the same lighter black shade as the date.

Of course, the most notable innovation on the watch is the black camo dial. Using two different shades of black for its raised camo pattern, the dial is surprisingly dynamic as its appearance shifts with the light — which isn’t something you can say about most all-black watches.

Black is modest and confident at the same time … Our limited edition, through the use of camouflage, celebrates versatility; it adapts, evolves,
and defines its own narrative.

Even the caseback continues the stealth theme, with a smoked black sapphire exhibition window providing a glimpse of Hublot’s Sellita-based Calibre HUB1110 automatic movement within.

Pricing and availability

Is this Hublot the most legible watch in the world? Nope, it’s probably one of the least legible. Is it still cool as hell? Yep. I’m not normally a camo guy, but the black camo pattern here is subtle and serves to add some on-theme visual interest to an entirely black design, creating something unique in the space.

The Hublot Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo is a limited edition of 300 pieces, and it comes with a matching blacked-out custom box featuring Yamamoto’s signature inside an oversized replica of the watch’s bezel.

The watch is priced at $12,100 and is available now from Hublot boutiques and (soon) online.
