Boisterous YouTuber Nico Leonard has a somewhat divisive reputation, but the watch he designed with Maen in 2025 was unquestionably gorgeous.

As the name suggests, the Grand Tonneau Jumping Hour had a tonneau case with a guichet jumping hour dial. But the follow-up for this collaboration blows away the original in both elegance and wearability.

The new Tonneau Ultra-Thin from Maen and Leonard features a slimmed-down case with a completely new dial, and most intriguing of all, comes on a bracelet designed specifically to complement this case.

Gone is the sunburst guichet panel with hour and minute apertures, and in its place is a barebones time-only layout with thin, polished pencil hour and minute hands and no seconds hand.

The double-layered, enamel-coated dial has a rich popcorn texture, familiar from Maen’s Manhattan collection, available in black, turquoise, red and yellow. All four colors have a fumé finish that fades to black around the rim.

The only markings on the dial are a Maen logo at 12:00, Leonard’s Pride & Pinion logo at 6:00 and “Swiss Made” printed along the bottom edge. The dial is topped with a flat, anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

Roll out

From the front, the Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin’s stainless steel case looks nearly identical to its predecessor. It’s still 34mm wide, with a satin-brushed top and polished brancards running along each side, extended out to act as the lugs.

It’s the side view that has changed significantly, cutting over a third of its height to come in at a slender 6.4mm. The gear-shaped crown, signed with Maen’s “M” logo, has also been downsized accordingly.

Better still, the new Grand Tonneau Ulta-Thin also comes with a new bracelet, designed specifically to complement the new case. It is a huge improvement over the black rubber strap on the original, which is still included as a bonus with this watch.

Maen calls its new case the Integrated Bamboo Bracelet because it looks like cut bamboo chutes. The rolled-link design resembles Breitling’s Rouleaux steel bracelet, with interconnected steel tubes.

The bracelet is finished with satin brushing, accented by a polished stripe of connecting links running down the center. It is secured with a butterfly clasp and features quick-release end links that fit the Jump Hour reference as well.

As mentioned, the black rubber strap from the previous version is provided as well, which uses a steel butterfly clasp.

Wind up

The Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin’s slender new profile is made possible by the La Joux-Perret Caliber D101 hand-wound movement. It beats at 3Hz, which is sufficient for the hour-and-minute-only design, and provides a 50-hour power reserve.

It is finished with Geneva stripes, blued screws and visible jewels, displayed through a sapphire crystal exhibition caseback. The caseback panel is secured by six Phillips-head screws, contributing towards its 50m water resistance, suitable for daily wear.

Availability and pricing

The Grand Tonneau Ultra-Thin is available in stainless steel with four popcorn fumé dial colors: black, turquoise, yellow and “lava” red. A gold-plated version is available only with the black dial, which doubles down on the 1970s swagger.

The Maen x Nico Leonard Grand-Tonneau Ultra-Thin is not exactly a limited edition, but it will only be available to order for a short duration. The one-week window runs from April 14 to April 21, 2026, and the watches are built once the orders are placed.

The steel references cost $1,790, while the gold-plated version costs $1,849.
