Timex’s Military-Inspired MK1 Chrono Field Watch Gets an Elevated Dial Upgrade

Launched in 2018, Timex’s Mk1 Chronograph field watch has quickly become a fan favorite. That is largely thanks to its connection to military history and understated styling.

However, that watch just got a big upgrade courtesy of a seemingly simple change. Two new Timex Mk1 Chronographs have come out for 2026, and they’re even more stunning than before.

Out of left field

There are two new options for the Mk1 Chronograph, and while they share a similar tweak, they’re also distinct. So, let’s start with what’s similar.

Both get a new dial finish. Instead of a flat matte color, they’ve been equipped with a sunray finish, an ultra-fine brushing that radiates out from the center toward the edge.

In effect, this allows the watch to catch the light and reflect it in a shimmering, color-changing manner. It’s both elegant and elevated, adding some character to the watch without taking any away.

One of the dials is done in a dark, almost forest green, while the other is a deep blue. However, the green option has matching subdials, whereas the blue one gets contrasting black ones, which creates slightly more visual intrigue (and adds another $10 to the price).

Both watches also get thick black leather straps with stitching that matches their dial color, for a little stylistic through-line.

Don’t fix what ain’t broke

Beyond that stylistic alteration, the rest of what made this watch a hit remains intact. And that’s a very good thing for returning fans, as they’ll know what to expect.

For those who don’t, allow me to walk you through some of the highlights:

The watch features a brushed stainless steel case and bezel-less design, as is typical of field watches. It also has dual pushers astride the crown for its chronograph functionality.

Over the dial, there’s an acrylic crystal, a lightweight polymer that resists impacts and is easily polished up, in case of nicks or scratches.

The watch also features simple lume on its numerals, dial hour markings and hands.

And the pièce de résistance: the watch features a reliable Meca-Quartz movement that combines the accuracy of quartz with a mechanical chronograph module.
