Over the last decade, Unimatic has quickly established itself as a cult-favorite watch brand, beloved for its timepieces’ unique combination of ultra-minimalist styling and highly capable builds.

The brand’s latest drop, a quartet of watches called the Unimatic Italian Alps Collection, remains steadfast to those elements, but it also offers some fresh new design aspects inspired by the brand’s homeland. Furthermore, it features one of Unimatic’s most novel developments.

Italian stallions

The collection, as its name suggests, draws inspiration from the beauty of the northern Italian mountains in both its stylistic and material elements. It’s broken up into four individual watches — two distinct models with two colorways each.

While the watches vary somewhat in style and mechanisms, they share some common threads. For instance, the two dial colorways are Alpine Sky, a vibrant blue that’s inspired by the sky above the mountains, and Glacier White, an appropriately icy lighter blue.

The strap material also draws inspiration from the region. Regardless of which model or colorway you pick, the watches come with a fumo deer leather — a soft, tanned material — two-piece quick-release strap.

Both watch models, despite their stylistic differences, also come with 316L stainless steel dials and reliable quartz VH31A movements.

It is worth noting which watch models these are, as they’re both based on existing Unimatic offerings.

The larger of the two — measuring 41.5 millimeters in diameter — is the Modello Uno, the brand’s inaugural model. The second, smaller option is the Modello Cinque, an even more minimalist watch.

The former is a diver with a rotating bezel, beefier case and guarded crown. The latter is more in line with contemporary dress watches and has no bezel.

There’s one other major thing worth noting: both of these watches come with Unimatic’s novel Unilight dial markers. In contrast to the brand’s older dials, these feature hand-applied, luminous 3D markers that rise above the dial, which the brand says adds “sculptural depth by day and a vivid glow by night.”

Both watches also get the brand’s proprietary anti-shock housings and 300-meter water resistance ratings. Furthermore, only 300 of each model and each colorway have been built — that’s 1200 watches total.
