Five years ago, in 2021, Vacheron Constantin launched an unexpected, extremely limited and achingly cool version of its Overseas integrated sports watch.

Available as either an Overseas Chronograph or Dual Time model and dubbed the “Everest,” the watches were based on a 2019 prototype worn by photographer and mountaineer Cory Richards on a Mount Everest expedition.

Watches and Wonders Geneva: Rolex, Grand Seiko and dozens of other heavy hitters gather in Switzerland every year to release their biggest watches. Catch up on all the new novelties.

The “Everest” made several sporty updates to the standard Overseas. Its case was made of lightweight titanium rather than steel. Its gray dial featured a grained texture and orange accents. And it was paired with gray rubber and orange-stitched fabric straps.

Both versions were limited to just 150 pieces, making them incredibly rare, and the Dual Time version especially has gone on to become a grail for many thanks to its achingly cool aesthetic, sporting functionality and adventurous backstory.

Now, at Watches and Wonders, Vacheron has launched a sequel of sorts to the Everest with the new, non-limited Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points. And it’s even better than the original.

Go your own way

The Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points borrows many traits from the Overseas. Again, we have a 41mm x 12mm Overseas case in titanium with the crown, pusher ring and bezel featuring an anthracite gray finish. This time, however, instead of crafting these elements in steel like on the Everest, they’re all in titanium.

The grained texture on the dial returns, but now with a circular satin finish on the inner minutes track and a lacquered outer seconds track. The hands and applied indices are all in white gold, save for the GMT hand and AM/PM indicator, both of which are orange like before. All are filled with Super-LumiNova.

Complete the set

There was one thing the Everest was missing, and that was a bracelet. The Overseas is, of course, an integrated bracelet sports watch. But if you wanted a titanium bracelet to match with your Everest’s league-leading interchangeable strap system, well, you were out of luck.

This time, there’s a bracelet.

The Cardinal Points remedies this issue by including a full titanium bracelet that perfectly matches the case and features the Overseas’ usual “Easy-fit” microadjust system. In addition to the bracelet, the watch also includes two saddle-stitched rubber straps with titanium folding clasps: one in orange, the other to match the dial.

Choose your color

That brings me to the dial, as there are four colors to choose from, each envisioned to match a point on the compass. Brown for south, white for north, green for west and blue for east.

The water resistance is the usual 150m, and inside behind the sapphire caseback beats the Vacheron Constantin Calibre 5110 DT/3 automatic movement with a quickset pusher date and 12-hour dual-time functionality with the day/night indicator. The movement features an NAC treatment and has a gold rotor.

Availability and pricing

The Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points is available now from Vacheron Constantin for $41,000 in all colors. And best of all, none of them are limited, meaning this coolness should be around for some time.
