Luminox’s Affordable Chronograph Dive Watch Takes to the Trails

Introduced in 2022, Luminox’s Pacific Diver Chronograph was a relatively quick follow-up to the time-only Pacific Diver, which came out just two years before it. And both have remained staples of the tactical brand’s lineup ever since.

While designed with underwater sport in mind, the latest editions of the Luminox Pacific Diver Chronograph (one in Forest Green and the other in Graphite Grey) leave the ocean behind in favor of more terrestrial adventure.

Don’t believe me, just watch

Functionally speaking, these new watches don’t veer off the Pacific Diver Chronograph path. They maintain all the same functionality that originally made this watch one of Luminox’s most utilitarian.

That includes keeping its Swiss-made Ronda Z60 quartz movement, a reliable staple of the watchmaking industry. And that movement, of course, means the watch’s chronograph functionality remains intact.

Similarly, the unidirectional dive timer bezel remains, allowing users to clock elapsed time. And they maintain the date window at the 4 o’clock position, too.

Interestingly, as these watches were inspired by land-lubber locales, like forests and mountains, the overarching functionality remains highly utilitarian even out of sight of the ocean. Just as the watch’s complications can be used under the sea, so too can they assist with navigating surroundings and calculating time in numerous ways.

Time for adventure

Materially, these watches also remain true to their origins. Their cases are built from IP-coated 316L stainless steel, a tough staple of Luminox’s catalog. And they sport the brand’s signature Carbonox bezels, as well as 25-year lumed hour markers and hands.

Where things veer off the beaten path is in regard to their styling. Not only do these two divers get new colorways, but even how those colorways are applied is different between them.

For starters, the Forest Green watch is more subtle. The green color is applied only to the watch itself on its rehaut (the sloped ring on the outer edge of the dial). However, it is matched by the color of its rubber strap.

The Granite Gray watch, inspired by mountainous terrain, is more comprehensive. Along with its strap and rehaut coloring, the grey color is also applied to its trio of subdials, making it stand out even more.

Beyond that, however, the watches are identical. Your job will simply be figuring out which color application you prefer.
