Cadillac might be the last brand to come to mind when it comes to go-fast enthusiast cars. But the top Detroit brass proved everyone wrong with its V-spec sedans.

Especially the outgoing CT5-V Blackwing and the smaller CT4-V Blackwing. Both met the call for a six-speed manual and tons of power.

Now, Caddy could be working on a follow-up.

Dumping millions on a new sedan and more gas-powered things

General Motors recently announced a major shift in its investment strategy to the tune of $275 million. One of the lyrics includes backing one of its largest manufacturing complexes in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Another notable point includes Cadillac, as GM confirmed it’s allocating a massive chunk of the investment to build a new internal combustion-powered sedan. Specifically, around $150 million.

Not only is this a significant undertaking, but it’s also a major shock (at least in the context of Cadillac’s electrification offensive).

Similar to other luxury and innovative automakers, Cadillac and General Motors were both heavily investing in EVs. But after the market spoke and electric cars struggled to catch on, everyone pumped the brakes on their plans.

This move towards a new internal combustion-powered engine comes as part of Cadillac’s recent strategy shift. Additionally, GM also changed direction and previously pledged to apply another major chunk of that investment towards further developing a full family of V8 engines.

Could this mean a new performance sedan is in the works?

As for what the new internal combustion-powered sedan could be is anyone’s guess. Internet speculation and rumors suggest it might be a follow-up to the company’s hot CT5-V Blackwing.

Or at least, it may be the platform behind the next-gen model, which would spawn a new CT5-V Blackwing successor, and potentially one for the CT4-V Blacking and company.

Both sedans recently got the axe, as they were nearing the end of their series production lifecycle. Without the CT4 and CT5, Cadillac is stuck selling only crossover SUVs and the Escalade, along with its electric vehicles.

Recently, Detroit’s been looking into sedans once again, as many automakers are getting the sense that sedans could be worth reviving.

There is a slight chance the new Cadillac could be a big flagship, basically, a successor to the old CT6. However, that model wasn’t exactly a stellar seller and the full-size luxury market is one tough corner to crack thanks to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8.
