Cadillac Just Said Farewell to Its Current BMW 3 and 5 Series Fighters

It looks like the end of the road is near for the CT4, but a new CT5 is just around the corner.

It appears the current Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans are no more after 2026. Enthusiast site CadillacVClub apparently stumbled upon an official statement from John Roth, the automaker’s global vice president, who confirmed the news.

Motor1 later corroborated the statement after speaking exclusively with company insiders, who also confirmed that both sedans are ending production.

The Cadillac CT4 succeeded the old ATS as the automaker’s BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Genesis G70 and Lexus IS competitor. The CT5 replaced the old CTS as Detroit’s competitor against the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.

The next-gen CT5 will “grow up” and stick to ICE power

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Detroit’s luxury crest. Roth also confirmed in his statement that a CT5 successor is in the works for after 2026. That’s not the case for the CT4, however, as there’s no word of a next-gen model.

“Today, Cadillac will announce that after six strong years, the current generation Cadillac CT4 and CT5 will be retired after model year 2026,” the statement reads. “The CT4 will continue through June 2026 and the CT5 until the end of 2026.”

“I am thrilled to confirm that the legacy of the CT5 will continue as a next-generation internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle in a future model year,” Roth continued in his statement. “The next-generation CT5 will be manufactured at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly plant. It will be available for purchase in the United States and Canada.”

The industry might be continuing its slow transition towards electrification. But Cadillac representatives told Motor1 that the CT5 will instead stick to internal combustion power.

“[We] will continue with a next-generation internal combustion engine vehicle,” Cadillac exclusively told Motor1.

Further into their discussion, the insiders also hinted that the CT5 will also reportedly mature in a variety of ways. For instance, the insiders said the CT5 will grow in size and become more luxurious to better compete with its rivals.

The current Blackwings will continue on, for now

Whether this discontinuation will apply to the high-performance V Blackwing versions, only time will tell. However, so far, this statement doesn’t apply to those models.

Only the standard CT4 and CT5 will be ending production. The CT4 is reportedly meeting its demise due to slow sales.

The CT5, on the other hand, outsold the CT4 considerably, which is why Cadillac insists on keeping it in production.
