Launched in 2011, Reebok’s Nano is one of the most influential training shoe lines ever. Before its debut, CrossFit enthusiasts had to settle for either running sneakers, weightlifting shoes or some other type of generic cross trainer.

The Nano dropped during a time when CrossFit started booming in popularity and gym-goers needed something more purpose-built for everything they’d tackle in one session: from box jumps to short sprints.

But not everyone wanted or needed something that hardcore. That’s why Reebok debuted its Nano Gym a couple years ago. It was marketed as a super-affordable everyman gym shoe that cost up to half the price of the current Nano X line.

Now, the Nano Gym has gotten its first sequel, and it’s even better than before.

Explosive improvements

This time around, Reebok swapped the standard EVA foam for its proprietary high-rebound Floatpulse in the midsole, which gives you a bit more explosiveness in your workout with improved energy return.

For the Nano Gym 2.0, the midsole has been revised for better energy return during explosive workouts like HIIT.

The upper has also been simplified, resulting in about 25% reduction in weight from its predecessor.

While it still has the same 8mm heel drop, the Nano Gym 2.0 should be better equipped for HIIT workouts and circuit training as well.

Noticeably lighter

Most notably, the Nano Gym 2.0 benefits from a revised mesh upper. Gone are the extra panels and higher heel collar. Now, everything’s been simplified. And the result is around a 25% reduction in weight (from around 12oz to 9oz for the similar size).

A slew of new colorways are available as well, including the white and Neon Cherry you see here.

Fans of the first Nano Gym will be happy to hear that the brand brings back certain elements, including the Performance Comfort collar for locking-in your foot and the Flex Groove rubber outsole, which features strategically-placed grooves for flexibility.

According to Reebok, the Nano Gym 2.0 is its “most versatile gym shoe yet.” And at $100, you can’t beat it.
