Salomon Reimagines an Iconic Style in an Icy, Dark New Rendition

The new XT-4 OG Recon takes its inky inspiration from some of the harshest glacial environments on the planet.

As is the case with many a Salomon shoe, the XT-4 OG got its start as a technical trail sneaker and, somewhere along the way, became a darling of the fashion world.

This particular heritage style was first released back in 2012 — and then reissued in 2023 to the joy of dad shoe fanatics everywhere.

Now in 2026, the classic silhouette receives another update. The latest release, the XT-4 OG Recon, draws its bold aesthetic from harsh alpine environments and the recon missions that defy them.

Stone-cold stunner

The XT-4 OG Recon is an absolute stunner, dressed in mostly black with cool blue, ice-like reflective details. This dark colorway is meant to evoke the gnarly glaciers found in high mountain locales.

The mesh upper features ripstop patterning designed to pay homage to the alpine gear on past recon missions (hence the name) and is also meant to honor the explorers who made their way into uncharted territory. Poetic, I know.

But, despite the weighty nature of its backstory, the XT-4OG Recon does an excellent job of looking contemporary, cool and capable.

The icy blue edition feels totally original, but features the same components that made it a star in the first place.

These include the AgileChassis Skeleton, which provides stability and dampening in concert with the EnergyCell midsole, the traction-boosting Contagrip outsole, molded Ortholite sockliner, anti-debris mesh and a soft textile lining.

As part of the new Recon capsule, the XT-4 OG Recon is accompanied by the equally impressive XT-Quest Recon and X-Alp Recon.

The XT-4 OG Recon is available now as part of the Recon capsule on Salomon’s official website, retailing for $200.
