Last year, Dali revealed its most powerful subwoofer ever: the V-16 F.

It features a custom-engineered 16-inch bass driver backed by an ultra-low-distortion 1,500-watt amplifier. According to the Danish loudspeaker maker, it was built to “redefine what’s possible in premium home cinema sound.”

Well, as of today, that flagship subwoofer just got even better.

THX Certified Dominus

That’s because, ahead of its official release, Dali has announced that the V-16 F has also achieved THX Certified Dominus status, which is the highest (and best) THX rating for a large home cinema.

Basically, this already elite active subwoofer just got an official seal of approval.

The certification means that the V-16F meets the highest level of performance standards for high-impact home cinema and larger music systems.

For those curious, speakers that achieve the THX Certified Dominus certification don’t just have to get loud, but they also can’t sacrifice sound quality when played at these high volumes.

THX claims that it pushes these speakers to the extreme, “subjecting [them] to 120 dB sound pressure levels where they must keep distortion to a minimum.”

Of course, subwoofers (and speakers) that achieve THX Certified Dominus aren’t for the average home theater or enthusiast. It’s only for the elite.

Dali claims that THX Certified Dominus is “the closest approximation to a public cinema experience that you can achieve in your own home” and that speakers in this class are typically reserved for large home theaters with “multiple rows of tiered seating at a greater distance from the screen.”

Price and availability

Dali just introduced the V-16 F subwoofer — along with revealing the news regarding its THX Certified Dominus stats — this week at ISE 26, a prominent audio and home theater trade show.

However, official pricing and availability information has still yet to be announced. Some third-party retailers have it listed for $9,000, but Dali has not confirmed this.
