Between its body-on-frame construction, solid axles and rugged simplicity, the Ineos Grenadier boasts plenty of overlanding-ready qualities right from the factory. It also helps that the brand provides service all over the world.

Of course, in standard passenger guise, the rugged British SUV isn’t exactly equipped for overnighters. Even in the case of the spacious station wagon, folding down the seats only makes for so much room, and you’d be better off fitting a rooftop tent or a trailer if you’ll be pitching camp with any kind of regularity.

Now, that’s set to change thanks to Storyteller Overland. With the unveiling of its latest offering, the Alabama-based outfit has reimagined the Ineos Grenadier as a capable micro camper suited for daily driving, weekend getaways and long-distance excursions alike.

Raising the roof

Storyteller has dubbed it the Grand Bohemian, and, while it’s based on Ineos’s SUV, the resulting rig is actually RVIA-certified. This is because it’s considered a fully integrated conversion rather than a vehicle accessorized after purchase (more on that later).

The most transformative aspect of the Grand Bohemian’s overlanding accouterments is, by far, the Alu-Cab roof. Thanks to the fitment of the pop-top, the Grenadier gains a lofted bed as well as rear standing room and a 270-degree awning.

But the conversion goes much deeper than an elevated sleeping setup. In place of the rear seats, you’ll find that Storyteller has added a full galley and lounge with a slide-out bench and soft-close drawers, as well as an induction cooktop, an integrated sink and a portable fridge.

Moreover, this Ineos touts everything that you need to go off the grid. In addition to a 5.4kWh battery with a 2,000w inverter, a 400w solar panel and a 30-amp shore connection, it features a 10.5-gallon freshwater tank, a four-gallon greywater tank, filtration, gas-fed heat and a composting toilet.

That 270-degree awning ensures that you have plenty of coverage, even outside.

When you consider the Grand Bohemian somehow also manages to pack features like an outdoor shower and a hidden storage locker, the only thing you really seem to be missing out on would be additional passenger provisions. It makes for a remarkably space-conscious rig.

Equipped for adventure

Although the Grenadier already comes well-equipped for off-road exploration, Storyteller made a few choice upgrades so that it wouldn’t be compromised by its various overlanding goodies.

Accordingly, as part of the Grand Bohemian conversion, the 3.0-liter BMW-sourced straight-six and 8-speed ZF automatic remain, again rated at a hearty 282 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. The rig also still touts the Grenadier’s two-speed transfer case, locking diff and constant four-wheel drive.

Underneath, however, you’ll find that Storyteller has fitted the Ineos with Evictus prerunner suspension for improved control and durability. It also rides on Torque Enduro wheels wrapped in chunky BFGoodrich off-road rubber.

Rounded out by handy trail accouterments like a winch, twin onboard ARB air compressors and an abundance of auxiliary lighting, the result is a Grenadier that’s even more of an overlanding dream.

From the Dakar and the Rebelle Rally to the Camel Trophy series, Storyteller Overland drew upon events with significant off-road heritage in the making of the Grand Bohemian, and it certainly shows in the end product.

Availability and pricing

Being fully RVIA-certified, the Grand Bohemian offers owners the benefits of longer-term financing options and nationwide dealer support, as well as an added Storyteller warranty.

While it’s far from a cheap rig at $198,888, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an option that’s quite this turnkey. It’s ready to hit the road right from the jump.
