After a nine-year hiatus, one of IKEA’s most iconic collections returns to shelves.

The PS 2026 collection arrives this month with a handful of whimsical designs, including a rocking bench and $5 paper masks that hang from the wall as decoration.

But there’s genuine utility here, too.

Comprised of nearly three-dozen items, PS 2026 showcases a four-tier cart on wheels, rattan ottoman with internal storage and inflatable lounge chair that’s easy to move around one’s home.

One of the highlights is a wooden version of IKEA’s Guide shelf. Highly collectible, the Guide first came out in 1985 and was later reissued under the name Byakorre.

Here it simply goes by the name IKEA PS 2026 Shelf, and it features red-painted end grains as a tribute to “traditional wood drying techniques,” the product page reads.

A brief history of PS

The first PS collection debuted in 1995, when IKEA set out to reestablish itself as a leader in Scandinavian design.

At the time, British, Japanese and Italian designers were gaining attention for minimalist furniture in natural wood.

Like the original PS collection from 1995, this year’s edition features a lot of natural wood as an expression of Scandinavian design.

In response, IKEA launched the first PS collection at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, where it quickly impressed both critics and consumers.

Rooted in Scandinavian heritage, the first collection featured clean lines, playful functionality, and thoughtful design. Just as important, the prices catered to shoppers at both ends of the economic scale.
