Revel is a Connecticut-based audio company that has specialized in high-end loudspeakers for the past 30 years. It’s actually the sister brand to Arcam, a British manufacturer known for its audiophile-grade hi-fi equipment (particularly CD players).

Fun fact: Revel (and Arcam) is owned by Samsung, which gained control over it (along with several other prominent hi-fi brands) when it acquired Harman International in 2017.

Today, Revel offers several different loudspeaker ranges, with its flagship being the PerformaBe series. Depending on the model, these speakers can range from between $1,500 to $17,000/pair.

Now the company is introducing a new range, the Performa4, which sits just below the flagship PerformaBe (and replaces the Performa3 range, which was introduced in 2012).

Revel Performa4 Series

Four tall floor-standing speakers, two with wood grain sides and two with black sides, each with four visible drivers on the front.
The F346 is the flagship of Revel’s Performa4 series. It has a three-way design featuring three 6.5-inch MCC cone woofers, a 6.5-inch DCC cone midrange, and a 1-inch DCC dome tweeter.

The Performa4 series consists of seven different loudspeakers: two floorstanding models, two bookshelves, a dedicated center channel and a powered subwoofer. According to the brand, the range is “engineered to deliver music with the utmost purity, exactly as the artist intended.”

Given that the range is designed to replace the Performa3 series, which is nearly 15 years old, pretty much everything about the Performa4 series has been updated and upgraded.

The F345 is essentially a smaller version of the F346. It has the same three-way design, but features smaller woofers and midrange drivers (both 5.25 inches) and the same 1-inch DCC dome tweeter.

Driver upgrades

Each speaker features newly developed Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC™) and Micro Ceramic Composite (MCC) transducers, which Revel claims “deliver exceptional rigidity, reduced mass, and dramatically lower coloration compared to conventional alternatives.”

At the heart of each loudspeaker is Revel’s proprietary seventh-generation Acoustic Lens Waveguide, which mounts the 1-inch DCC dome tweeter and seamlessly integrates with the midrange driver.

All woofer and midrange drivers feature newly patented cast aluminum frames, too, which further help improve their performance.

Revel has modernized the aesthetic of each loudspeaker, too. All models have a rigid cross-braced cabinet construction and come with speaker grilles that magnetically attach.

The front of each speaker is black with polished detailing. The curved cabinet sides are come in two premium wood veneers: Natural Walnut or Black Walnut.

Rounding out the Performa4 series is the B140 powered subwoofer. It packs a 10-inch fiber-composite cone woofer that’s driven by a 1,500-watt Class D amplifier.
