GoPro HERO5 and HERO6 Cameras

The main improvements in the HERO6 come thanks to its new guts, the GP1 chip, which allows it to record faster framerates at higher resolutions. What does that really mean? Better-looking slow-motion footage, for starters. The camera can also be awakened with voice controls and comes with quick video editing software built-in.

There’s no doubt that the HERO6 is a great action camera, especially when it’s marked down by $50. But let’s remember that its predecessor was considered best-in-class just one year ago — it’s still waterproof, features voice and LCD touchscreen controls and it still packs more power than the everyday user will likely take advantage of. If you’re considering picking up either camera this holiday season, know that right now, the older HERO5 is two times better in one aspect — it’s $100 off. — Tanner Bowden
