The KEF LS50 speakers were released back in 2012 and, since then, they’ve been considered some of the best desktop monitors or bookshelf speakers for their price (large-ish) and size (expensive-ish). Because of their popularity, the British audio manufacturer has iterated from them, releasing KEF LS50 Wireless last year, which are active powered speakers (each speaker has its own power amplifier built-in) that can also stream music over Bluetooth wi-fi. (The original LS50 are passive speakers.) And just last month, KEF released the LSX, which are smaller versions – about one-third the size – of the LS50 Wireless speakers.
Of course, the KEF LS50 are still phenomenal bookshelf speakers for anybody looking for a high-quality passive option to hook up to their receiver or record player. And they’re also way cheaper than the KEF LS50 Wireless – in fact, now they’re less than half the price. The KEF LS50 normally go for $1,300/pair these days, but KEF is running a discount dropping the KEF LS50 down to just shy of a $1,000. This discount applies to speakers bought at KEF Direct, Magnolia Design Center, and Crutchfield (along with other participating KEF dealers).
It’s definitely a pretty good deal, but it also poses an interesting question. The KEF LS50 speakers are the same price as the much smaller, but more stream-friendly KEF LSX speakers – so which should you buy? If you’re at all torn as to which speakers to choose, you at least have time – this limited time deal on the KEF LS50s ends on December 31.
