Ikea’s Deceptively Versatile Cast-Iron Favorite Is Finally Available in the U.S.

The Swedish furniture giant’s new collection is small but mighty — and the star of the show has already earned a devoted following in other markets.

Ikea is putting in work for the warm weather ahead in the Northern Hemisphere by rolling out a wide range of new products geared toward outdoor entertaining and living, from patio furniture to portable grills.

But buried within the deluge of more expected seasonal launches is a small, focused outdoor cooking collection that deserves attention for both its wallet-friendly pricing and versatility.

Especially since it includes at least one revised take on a cult favorite that international Ikea customers have enjoyed using in particular since at least last summer.

Pizza and…beyond

The 13 3/4 cast-iron pizza skillet has been available in international markets under the Grilltider line for at least a year now and has quietly earned praise from fans for its cooking versatility beyond making pizza.

The Havstulpan collection consists of four items: a cast-iron pizza pan ($30), a stainless steel and beech pizza peel ($15), a bamboo cutting board with pizza-slice guides ($10), and a stainless steel and beech pizza cutter ($5).

Everything in the lineup is priced well under $50, making the entire set accessible for anyone looking to level up their at-home pizza game without a major investment.

But one item has also quietly earned praise from international grillers for its cooking capabilities beyond the Italian classic.

If the 13 3/4-inch cast-iron pizza pan looks familiar to enthusiasts who follow international Ikea drops, that’s because it is.

The pan has been available in other markets, including Canada, under the Grilltider collection name for over a year now. (Confusingly, Ikea also sells a Grilltider line in the U.S. that doesn’t include the pizza products.)

International grillers on Reddit have been singing the pan’s praises for months, using it not only for pizza but for everything from smash burgers on the grill to flatbreads and even giant cookies.

The pan’s arrival and rebranding stateside is well-timed. Cast-iron pizza has earned something approaching cult status in home-cooking circles over the past few years (we recommend giving J. Kenji López-Alt’s foolproof recipe a shot if you’re curious). The general method is simple: press your dough into a well-oiled cast-iron pan, load up your toppings, and bake.

The result is a thick, crispy-bottomed pie with a satisfying crunch that rivals what you’d get from a dedicated pizza oven — without the four-figure price tag.

The Havstulpan bamboo cutting board is a revised version of the Ikea SÅPÖRTMAL, previously made from beech wood, and features dedicated grooves on one side for properly splitting up a pizza or catching juices from cut items pulled straight off the grill.

Reddit’s r/castiron and r/castironcooking communities are packed with posts from home cooks who swear by the technique, and for good reason.

The even heat distribution and retention that make cast iron ideal for searing steaks work just as well for achieving that golden, almost fried crust that defines a great pan pizza.

Until now, the go-to option in this category beyond a standard cast iron skillet has been Lodge’s 15-inch Seasoned Cast Iron Pizza Pan, which retails for around $43.

Like most Lodge cast-iron gear, it’s a solid piece of cookware, but Ikea’s entry undercuts it by more than $10 while offering a comparable cooking surface.

The Havstulpan pan is slightly smaller at 13 3/4 inches, but for most home ovens and grills, that’s more than enough real estate for a personal or shareable pie. And at $30, it leaves plenty of room in the budget for the rest of the collection.

All four Havstulpan items are available now on Ikea.com. The cast-iron pizza pan is $30, the pizza peel is $15, the bamboo cutting board is $10 and the pizza cutter is $5.

You can pick up the full collection for just under $60 before shipping, or grab individual pieces in-store where available. Some items are already showing limited stock at select locations, at least online.
