As regular GP readers know, one thing Civivi is arguably better than any other brand at is churning out great-looking knives that save money on materials while getting the job done.

However, another thing the prolific Yangjiang, China-based label does quite well is give fans a sneak peek at new and upcoming drops.

The Nemain offers an unbeatable combo of looks, features and materials for well under a Benjamin.

The brand’s site has tabs for not only “new arrivals” and “pre-order” but also “announcement.”

That’s where you can often unearth far-off gems, including yet another head-turning blade packing quality steel, three deployments and a ruggedly compelling silhouette: the Nemain.

All that Nemains

I confess I thought the name was a nonsense word. Then I actually looked it up and was quickly corrected.

In Irish mythology, Nemain is a spirit or goddess who essentially personifies the frenzy and chaos of war.

This knife is so fresh it currently still has “prototype” printed on the blade.

She’s often pictured wielding a spear, sword or knife, and while Civivi’s offering feels more suited to slicing an apple than charging into battle, there’s at least some logic to it.

The business end is a 3.15-inch clip point blade made of Nitro-V, one of the best and most balanced budget steels around, thanks to its blend of cutting performance, corrosion resistance and toughness.

The black blade and green handle together give off military vibes, lending credence to the knife’s name.

Two variants of the knife are available, with the one spotlighted on this page featuring a black stonewashed finish that really maxes out the aesthetics, complete with a bit of spine jimping for added grip during detail work.

Made of green canvas micarta, the textured handle nicely complements the blade while accommodating a lanyard hole and a reversible tip-up pocket clip.

The other variant of the knife has a satin-finished blade and a G10 handle that looks almost psychedelic, perhaps referencing the haze of war? (I’m trying here, folks.)

Where the knife is perhaps most intriguing, however, is right smack in the middle, where you’ll find not one, not two, but three deployment methods.

In addition to the swift rear flipper tab, there are also ambidextrous thumb studs for a more, shall we say, dignified deployment.

Clockwise from top, you can see the three deployment methods: crossbar lock, thumbstud and flipper tab.

Then there’s the locking mechanism, the coveted crossbar lock, a style you will find under many names, most notably Benchmade’s patented Axis lock.

This handy little slider not only enables a fidget-friendly third deployment option, but it also makes retracting the blade super easy.
