Founded in 2019, rising knife brand CJRB has really come into its own of late, with two of the coolest knives of the past year emerging from the Yangjiang, China-based Artisan Cutlery spinoff.

One of those blades is the Bolt, which boasts the brand’s uniquely useful Recoil Lock V2.

CJRB brings the best feature of the Gobi to the Bolt, resulting in one of the handiest $50 knives ever made.

The other is the Gobi (J1906-GD), which features an easy-to-spot glow-in-the-dark handle.

Now, echoing that fateful day, a chocolate-chomping man and peanut butter-munching woman collided to form Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, CJRB puts two great tastes together in the CJRB Bolt (J1960-GD).

Bolt of lighting

The result of this inspired mash-up is a frisky folder offering the best qualities of two already outstanding knives while keeping the price steady at just $50.

From the Bolt side of things comes both the overall silhouette and the aforementioned Recoil Lock V2, which the brand has begun introducing to a few compelling models, including the formidable Doubletap

The crossbar lock and the little tab (just below it in this image) are linked, enabling you to release the lock with a simple pull of the tab, rather than having to tug on the two sides of the crossbar.

This mechanism is itself a hybrid, combining the near-ubiquitous crossbar lock with CJRB’s own take on the Demko Knives Shark-Lock, a small, jutting, jimped tab on the back of the knife, near the top of the handle, where you typically find a rear flipper.

As it is essentially a second way to loosen the crossbar lock, the result is an additional single-handed deployment and retraction option at your literal fingertips.

This knife also features an ambidextrous thumb stud, turning it into a real multi-deploying monster.

Throw in the ambidextrous thumb stud and you ultimately have three different ways to brandish the 3.25-inch, drop-point blade, which is made of reliable, affordable AR-RPM9.

That’s a heck of a lot of action for a knife that costs just $50, and that’s only half of the story here.

The blade features a full belly and jimping on the spine, making everything from big cuts to detail work easier.

Because, as I mentioned earlier, this knife also gets a textured handle made of light, tough and glow-in-the-dark G10, another feature CJRB has been slowly introducing to its lineup; it’s also found in the Maileah (J1918-GD).

As with the lock, this illuminating feature is both a novelty and functionally beneficial, helping you spot the knife if you happened to, say, drop it around the campsite after sunset, or are simply trying to find it at the bottom of a crowded bag.

The reversible pocket clip is one more selling point of a knife that packs so much value; $50 feels like a real steal.

Weighing a relatively lean 2.68 ounces, the Bolt (J1960-GD) rounds out its appeal with a lanyard hole and a reversible deep-carry tip-up clip.

Honestly, if you’re not totally sold at this point, I don’t know what else to tell you.
