Nike’s Just-Released Everyday Running Shoe Is Already Almost Half Off

New this year, the Pegasus 42 features a full-length Air Zoom unit, extra cushion underfoot and, at least for now, a price that’s hard to believe.

Nike’s archive is full of iconic running shoes, ranging from the Tailwind to the Cortez. But no franchise can match the sheer endurance of the Pegasus.

Nike claims it sold somewhere in the ballpark of 300,000 pairs of the the first Pegasus model, released in 1983.

Today? That number is easily in the tens of millions, thanks to a reliable ride that caters to runners big, small, fast and slow.

Comfortable, consistent and cheap

For the Pegasus 42, released in 2026 after a two-year wait, Nike equipped its workhorse trainer with full-length Air Zoom unit that functions as a de facto springboard like the plates in its super shoes.

“That just really gives a propulsive feel to the runner as they get through their midfoot and onto the forefoot,” says Elliot Heath, a senior footwear expert for the brand.

It also features a revised last that adds curvature under the toes, allowing Nike to pack extra cushion with no change in the stack height.

But don’t go thinking the changes result in a higher price tag. In fact, the Pegasus 42 is already almost half off, thanks to Nordstrom’s spring Savings Event.

Right now, the retailer is selling the shoe in a striking “Sapphire” blue colorway for just $87. For those counting, that’s a whopping 40 percent discount on the model’s already-reasonable $145 price tag.

We’re guessing this won’t hurt the Pegasus’s popularity.
