It’s a poorly guarded secret that professional runners routinely compete in prototype racers.

Lesser known: you can actually buy them. At least in theory.

“Shoes must be available for purchase by any Athletes participating in World Rankings Competitions,” according to World Athletics regulations.

Usually that means a handful of examples set aside for expos and college campuses.

But Faith Kipyegon’s one-off middle-distance spike, used during her Breaking4 attempt last year, looks to be getting a wider rollout than the rest.

The Nike Victory Elite FK is now available at a handful of retailers, including Heartbreak, The Outpost Running and other accounts across the country.

The shoe takes after the decorated Victory 2, which took home over a dozen medals at Paris Olympics in 2024.

However, it features a unique upper, thicker Air Zoom unit for increased energy return and six spikes, instead of four.

It also comes with a retooled carbon fiber plate, emblazoned Nike’s namesake, the Greek goddess of victory.

While Kipyegon ultimately failed to hit her goal of becoming the first woman in history to run a four-minute mile, the world record holder still got closer than anyone before or since.

As such, text on top of the tongue reads, “Fastest Known” as a testament to Kipyegon’s blisteringly quick time of 4 minutes and 6.42 seconds.

Availability and pricing

While the Victory Elite FK is indeed available for purchase, examples appear to be limited to just a few sizes.

The shoe costs $400 at retail, earning another superlative: the most expensive running shoe in Nike history.
