For years, decades even, Nike’s roster of running shoes revolved around the Pegasus.

The do-it-all workhorse first came out in the 1980s, and it continues to be the subject of Nike’s most exciting new tech.

But for many a runner, it can no longer best called the brand’s best daily trainer, with the baton passing last year to the Vomero Plus.

Designed to dethrone Hoka in the max-cushioned category, the model features a midsole made entirely of ZoomX foam, the same PEBA-based compound found in Nike’s record-setting super shoes.

That makes the shoe surprisingly nimble, despite a substantial 45mm stack height, with a soft landing that helps keep the legs feeling fresh.

If the latest variant is anything to go by, though, performance is only part of the appeal.

The next Vomero Plus, first spotted on one of Nike’s overseas websites, appears to be a triple-black model, with matching upper, midsole and outsole.

Alone, the monochromatic makeover would make the colorway appealing to minimalists or frankly anyone looking for a shoe that can go from gym to coffee shop.

However, the design also drops the large swoosh logo on the sides for a truly stealthy look with crossover versatility.

Availability and pricing

Available early February in select markets, the Vomero Plus “Black” is expected to arrive in the US shortly thereafter.

Existing colorways of the shoe cost $180, with this one likely to follow suit.
