Workwear may seem simple on the surface, but there’s a distinct divide between modern-day releases and the classics.

Contemporary styles often feature synthetic fabrics designed for performance, while traditional workwear relies on cotton, canvas and other natural fibers to create outerwear that is as timeless as it is durable.

The OG Detroit Jacket from Carhartt WIP is a modern reinterpretation of a 1954 classic, blending old-school materials with new-school sensibilities into one hardworking layer.

For Spring 2026, it continues to bridge past and present, proving the silhouette still holds up today.

What’s old is new

Carhartt WIP has continually reimagined the Detroit Jacket since the European spinoff label’s founding in 1989.

While the original traces its roots back to 1954, the “OG” Detroit Jacket is a more recent WIP-specific fit, combining the boxier proportions of the original with modern fabrics and details that allow this version to stand on its own.

The SS26 rendition of the OG Detroit Jacket comes in two heritage-fueled washes.

Blue/Dusty Hamilton Brown (Burst Washed) is a classic light wash denim paired with a pale tan corduroy collar, while Blue/Black features a dark wash similar to raw selvedge denim paired with a black collar.

Both versions of the refreshed jacket are designed with a 100 percent cotton, 12-ounce ‘Camano’ Denim, a rigid, heavy-duty denim favorited by Carhartt WIP.

Additional details include the poplin-lined body and nylon-lined sleeves, triple-stitch construction, front zip closure, zippered chest pocket, two welt pockets, adjustable cuffs and bottom band and, of course, the iconic Carhartt square label.

While slimmer models prevailed in the ’90s, the oversized, boxier fit of this take is in line with the original Carhartt 1954 release.
