Like all G-Shocks, the relatively upscale MT-G line regularly offers new colors and versions as the underlying model’s tech and design continue to evolve. This newest model has striking red accents paired to a black case and incorporates a new shock-resistant case structure and more wearable size than previous versions. The design looks cool, to be sure, but there are many other significant features that G-Shock offers at this product tier besides good looks.
The Japanese brand’s more luxury-level models like MT-G and the top-of-the-line MR-G often include premium features like radio connectivity to regularly synch with atomic clocks. This is augmented with the ability to pair with your smartphone to, for example, update time zones and easily control the watches many functions via an app. Casio’s approach for these connected models is not to be a smartwatch, but rather to be the best, most practical and hassle-free wristwatch modern technology can deliver. Other technology like solar charging is also part of that mission.
All this tech and the brand’s signature durability lead to some bold and chunky cases — but this is part of the fun G-Shock personality and experience. To keep its 52mm-wide case more wearable, however, the new MT-G MTGB1000B-1A4 has features like articulating lugs and a lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced resin case. Naturally nearly indestructible, higher-end models like this include enhanced durability features like sapphire crystal. This new watch also has red accents with a bright red urethane band and will be available from early May 2019 for a price of $900.
