Omega’s Speedmaster is far from the only watch with NASA bona fides, and the most affordable “Moonwatch” has long been the Lunar Pilot from Bulova.
Based on a Bulova prototype worn on the lunar surface by Astronaut Dave Scott during the Apollo 15 mission in 1971, the Lunar Pilot has a near-equal claim to the title, and the original design happens to sport a similar monochromatic look to the Speedy.

Since the modern Lunar Pilot’s launch a decade ago, its affordability, respectable build and genuine history have made Bulova’s chronograph a hit among enthusiasts and collectors. But there is one lingering issue the brand hasn’t addressed until now: its size.
The Lunar Pilot has finally received a long-awaited downsizing to a more wearable and contemporary 41mm case size. It makes the storied design more accommodating for daily wear.
It’s a significant change from 2015’s original 45mm reissue, and 2.5mm smaller than Bulova’s current collection.
