I’ve made no secret of my love for the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer.

The family-owned Swiss luxury brand’s do-it-all sports watch combines dress watch looks with a tool watch’s ruggedness and a haute-level movement. It is the epitome of a “one-and-done” watch, and if it weren’t for the ~$18,000 entry fee, I’d already have one in my collection.

The ultimate version of the Pioneer is undoubtedly the tourbillon version, as the fact that a watch this sharp-looking with a tourbillon still has 120m of water resistance is just so silly and fun.

But now, Moser has cranked up the fun and silliness of the Pioneer Tourbillon up to 11 in a new collab with retail giant Bucherer that adds a heavy dose of Miami-inspired flavor to the sports watch.

Miami heat

The new Pioneer Tourbillon Miami from Moser and Bucherer takes the 40mm Pioneer Tourbillon in stainless steel and turns it into a poolside superstar straight out of South Beach.

The watch features a dial in Moser’s “Concept” style, meaning it’s completely sterile and devoid of any printing or indices. Instead, it lets the bright blue fumé dial do the talking… along with the prominent tourbillon at 6:00. The flying tourbillon features a double hairspring, both of which are produced in-house by Moser, ensuring even greater precision than a normal tourbillon.

The mesmerizing tourbillon is the centerpiece of Moser’s in-house Calibre HMC 805 automatic movement, which features some skeletonization and anthracite-coated bridges, along with an 18K red gold skeletonized rotor. The movement’s power reserve is a weekend-proof 72 hours, but you’ll definitely want to wear this on the weekends. I mean, come on, it’s like the ultimate weekend watch.

Going back to that bold blue dial, it’s far from the only in-your-face use of color on this watch. The hour and minute hands are both filled with lime-green Super-LumiNova, and there’s a hot pink flange circling the outer edge of the dial.

The watch is mounted on a matching hot pink rubber strap with curved ends and includes an additional white rubber strap for those times when you want to call a little less attention to your wrist. Both straps are perforated for those hot Miami days, and as someone who is very familiar with Moser’s rubber straps, I can attest to them being among the softest and most comfortable in the industry.

Availability and pricing

Of all the variations out there on the Moser Pioneer, this might be the boldest iteration yet, even beating out the turquoise-and-blue “Spiced Aqua” editions from last year. I recognize these saturated, sun-drenched colors aren’t for everyone, but if someone gave me a blank check today and told me I could buy any watch in the Pioneer family, I’m probably taking this new Pioneer Tourbillon Miami.

Of course, that probably isn’t happening, so to the people who actually do have the means to obtain this watch: good luck. Moser is only producing 28 examples of the Miami edition, and they’re available exclusively at Bucherer for $69,900 a pop. If you’re interested, I suggest you act quickly, as these are all sure to be scooped up by well-heeled Moser collectors very soon.
