Green watch dials don’t get enough love.

Blue, black and silver dominate the market because they are neutral enough to wear with anything and please everyone. But I can attest from ample firsthand experience that the right green dial complements just about everything.

If you’re looking to add an emerald dial to your collection without breaking the bank, Timex’s Marlin is a good place to start. The 1960s revival collection has featured various shades, including a recent sunburst olive collaboration with Todd Snyder, but the newest entry could be the best yet after a little DIY tweak.

It is a Marlin Quartz, the collection’s new battery-powered entry point that debuted in fall 2025, priced at just $159. The design is built upon the same rounded 34mm stainless steel case that relaunched the Marlin a decade ago.

The Marlin Quartz dial is an evolution of the Marlin California dial from 2020, but with the Roman Numeral 1, 2, 10 and 11 switched to Arabic numerals for a more traditional look.

The new mint green dial comes in a gold-tone plated case with a matching crown and framed dauphine hands. A dark purple, which resembles sun-faded black at arm’s length, is used for the hour markers and seconds hand.

The other two watches in the release have an eggshell white dial with blue hour markers and a pink seconds hand.

The other two watches in this three-piece release both feature an eggshell white dial with blue hour markers and a pink seconds hand, but use two different blue, pink and off-white NATO straps.

Gold tone on the case, hands and strap hardware is the throughline for this pastel spring release.

Something’s missing

Timex positions all three of the new Marlin Quartz references as women’s watches, but the most feminine attribute in each case is the strap. Don’t get me wrong, I would definitely wear the pink and blue straps on more neutral watches, but I could do without the green one.

The Marlin Quartz debuted with a black leather strap that would look perfect on the new mint dial.

The new mint green Marlin requires just one simple DIY step to reach its full potential: a strap change. If only Timex offered it on the same black embossed leather pin buckle strap that the Marlin Quartz debuted with, you wouldn’t have to bother, but the process is easy enough.

Considering the watch costs only $159, you can still pick up an additional strap and keep the total well under $200. Amazon is the easiest route, with plenty of black leather straps available for $20 or less.

Just make sure the strap is 18mm wide to match the lug width on the Marlin’s 34mm case, and I highly recommend springing for quick-release.

After spending one minute switching out the pastel NATO strap, this minty fresh Marlin Quartz can be a perfect example of a muted green dial that adds a dash of flavor to any outfit. The 34mm gold case and assumed black strap make it subtle enough for daily wear.
