Timex has figured out a pretty simple way to make almost any watch cooler: Just add Snoopy.

The iconic cartoon beagle has become an unexpected horological icon thanks to his association with certain rare (and awesome) Omega Speedmaster references, but Omega is far from the only brand to license Peanuts characters. Several other brands have put out their own Snoopy watches in recent years, but none more than Timex, which has an entire line of affordable watches featuring Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang.

The latest is an update to the brand’s TAG Heuer Carrera-inspired Marlin Chronograph, and it’s one of the coolest and most charming racing chronos you’ll find under $300.

The watch is a Snoopyfied version of the Marlin Chronograph Tachymeter. It features the same 40mm stainless steel case topped with a retro acrylic crystal that envelops the inner tachymeter bezel, making it visually similar to TAG’s modern Glassbox Carrera. The watch also features the same sunburst blue dial with a Carrera-esque tricompax layout and a pair of vertical racing stripes on the right side, bisected by the 3:00 24-hour register.

The red and light-blue stripes are slightly altered here from the standard Marlin Chronograph Tachymeter, as they bear less of a resemblance to the iconic Gulf livery. The distinct 12, 3 and 9 applied, enclosed Arabic numerals remain and the black leather rally strap has been exchanged for a sharp blue one with white stitching.

Of course, the most notable change is the addition of Snoopy and his old pal, Woodstock. Snoopy strikes a celebratory pose against a yellow checkered background inside the 9:00 subdial, while his avian friend is perched atop the 3:00 register. That subdial also contains a large number “50,” which looks like a race car number but is actually a nod to the year 1950, when Peanuts debuted.

The solid caseback features an engraving of the Peanuts gang and hides an undisclosed quartz movement.

Availability and pricing

As a Timex, the new Peanuts x Timex Marlin Chronograph featuring Snoopy is decidedly affordable at just $279, though that does mark a $60 premium over the regular Marlin Chronograph Tachymeter. Given the popularity of Timex’s Snoopy watches, however, I still expect this one to sell out fairly quickly.
