While EDC utility knives aren’t nearly as popular as their permanent-bladed counterparts (AKA standard pocket knives), they do offer some benefits not shared with traditional folders.
While, at one time, traditional folders offered mechanisms not found in utility knives, the feature gap has narrowed. Now, there are brands making utility knives with trendy locking mechanisms, handle materials and even deployments.
Take the TiGo SyncraBlade, for example. This ute blade deploys in a highly unique manner not previously seen in utility knives. And yet, that’s just one of the many things that make it special.

Transformer EDC
Typically, utility knives deploy in one of two ways: they either slide out, like a traditional utility knife, or they unfold, like a conventional pocket knife. The SyncraBlade does neither, instead opting for a method that EDC fanatics might recognize.
The SyncraBlade’s blade “extends” โ rather than slides or unfolds โ in a manner that’s uncannily similar to CRKT’s morphing knife, the Provoke (which began its life as a karambit).
