Last year’s Vomero Plus was more than a shoe. It was a return to form for Nike in the daily trainer category, one where brands such as Adidas, Asics and Hoka surged have surged ahead.

The claim is more than conjecture.

Nike CEO Elliot Hill confirmed that the Vomero had become a $100 million franchise on its own, and that was before before the launch of the fan-favorite, award-winning Plus model.

The Vomero Plus is the crown jewel of Nike’s resurgent Vomero lineup, which now competes with the Pegasus as the brand’s go-to running franchise.

On the plus side

Built with ZoomX foam, the same stuff in Nike’s record-setting marathon shoes, the Vomero Plus exaggerates everything that works well in the entry-level Vomero.

Just one problem: premium cushion comes with a premium price tag, and pairs of the Vomero Plus cost $180 at full retail, even half a year later.

Fortunately, the shoe just hit that point in the life cycle where early colorways are starting to hit sales bins, and Dick’s Sporting Goods has one particularly attractive variant at a deep discount.

Right now runners can score the Vomero Plus in “Seaweed” green, accented with Nike’s signature “Volt” hue, for more than 20 percent off.

That brings the total price down from $180 to $140, which isn’t just cheaper than the price on Nike’s official website. It’s actually below the MSRP of the Vomero 18 in the tier below.

Not bad for an elite, max-cushioned cruiser ready to rack up the miles this summer.
