Nike’s never been one to care much for tradition. So it tracks in hindsight that the brand’s original “trail shoe” was anything but.
Named the LDV (short for Long Distance Vector), the lightweight runner accompanied American climbers Rick Ridgeway and John Roskelley on a multimonth ascent of K2.
Like most of Nike’s offerings then and since, the fabric shoe was lightweight, breathable and nimble — the exact opposite of the rigid trekking boots coming out of Europe at time.

Nonetheless, the LDV proved pivotal.
Back home, it paved the way for All Conditions Gear (ACG), Nike’s original outdoor line, relaunching in 2026 as a performance-first sub-brand.
It only seems right that the LDV is once again a part of that story.
