Wharfedale introduced its Heritage series of loudspeakers back in 2012. The range consists of reimagined versions of its classic loudspeakers from the 1960s and 1970s. Basically, the speakers look old yet sound new.

To date, the legendary British hi-fi manufacturer has released several loudspeakers in its Heritage series, with standouts including the Denton bookshelf speakers and the Dovedale and Linton stand-mount loudspeakers. (Wharfedale has also released “Super” versions of the Denton and Linton, which are significantly upgraded.)

Now, Wharfedale is introducing a new loudspeaker to its Heritage series. But unlike the rest of the range, it isn’t a new version of an old loudspeaker.

Wharfedale Heritage Centre

The Heritage Centre is designed for Denton and Linton owners who want to transform their stereo system into a broader home theater.

The Heritage Centre is a center-channel loudspeaker that’s built in the same image as the rest of Wharfedale’s Heritage series. It comes in the same real-wood veneer finishes, and it has the same black baffle and classic cloth grille.

Naturally, the Heritage Center is aimed at Linton or Denton owners who want to transform their traditional stereo system into a 3.1- or 5.1-channel home theater system.

Beyond stereo

The new Heritage Centre matches the other Heritage loudspeakers both aesthetically and acoustically.

Each center-channel speaker has a three-way, bass reflex design with four drivers, each derived from the drivers Wharfedale incorporates in its Super Denton bookshelf speakers, which go for $1,499/pair.

At the center, there’s a one-inch soft dome tweeter that is positioned above a two-inch soft dome midrange driver. Both are flanked by twin 6.5-inch woven Kevlar bass drivers.

Just like its other Heritage series loudspeakers, the Heritage Centre comes in three real-wood veneer finishes: Black Oak, Mahogany and Walnut.

Availability and pricing

Wharfedale’s Heritage Centre will be available starting in late May. The speaker will cost £649 or roughly $880, making it technically the most affordable loudspeaker in the Heritage series.
