If you’re in the market for a camper van to live out your nomadic life fantasies, there certainly many options to choose from. But one version we’re missing out here in the States is a model that quintessentially started the whole movement in the first place: the Volkswagen Transporter.

The Wolfsburg-based automaker launched its next-gen “T7” model not too long ago. As a result, outfitters are already hard at work creating their own #vanlife concoctions.

One of which is Australia’s Trakka brand, who just debuted its latest take on the iconic camper van.

It’s called the Trakkadu, which succeeds the company’s previous T6 Transporter-based variant. Just like the old one, the new T7-based Trakkadu nudges the outfitter’s flagship model into the new generation.

It begins as a T7 Transporter with the factory-equipped pop-up roof, complete with 4Motion all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel. Then, Trakka begins the van’s transformation by adding the sort of amenities you’d expect from your typical camper van.

Such includes a fully-kitted mini-kitchen, complete with an electric Westinghouse stove-top range, an integrated mini fridge-and-freezer combo, and high-rise counter tops with plenty of sliding drawer and cabinet-like storage options.

Buyers can customize the interior further, by opting for the dual-sliding door T7. Versus, the single-door variant shown in its press materials.

When that happens, the kitchen station’s length gets shorter with fewer storage options. But its interior versatility remains.

Trakka continues making good use of the T7 Transporter’s bones by adding a full-size bed at the rear quarters of the van. But the company also provides alternative options for sleeping arrangments.

For instance, one can opt for a roof-top bed in the pop-up section of the van, similar to Volkswagen’s factory-built California vans.

The Trakkadu also comes with the usual portable lavatory services, with options ranging from a separate cassette-type toilet, or even a waterless version, depending on the buyer’s choice. But the Transporter’s factory-integrated potable water system remains. So showering capabilities aren’t withheld from the equation.

Trakka will even make your van into an overlander

Should someone be looking to travel down the less beaten paths, Trakka will even equip the Trakkadu with some off-roading goodies. Need a suspension lift and some all-terrain tires?

Trakka has you covered. And, they’ll even add a skid plate underneath the body to protect all of the important moving bits.

If you’re really looking to travel deep into the wilderness, the firm even has its own custom-made snorkel option for the engine’s intake. So you can ford some deep waters, should you be faced with such an obstacle.

Availability and pricing

Trakka didn’t announce specific pricing details, as each build is dependent on the customer’s options choices. But the brand is ready transform either the Volkswagen Transporter or alternatively, a Ford Transit van. And you’ll likely need to be within reasonable distance of the company’s HQ, just outside Sydney.
